The author of Step By Step, Jonathan "Scooter" Clark, standing on a very large old cedar stump on north Vancouver Island.

A group of first-year planters, experiencing their first day of planting. This group is learning to plant trees at a pre-season Rookie School session.

Here's an example of some very easy ground. It's quite flat, and there is very little slash that the planters need to work around.

If you think that this block doesn't look as easy as the block in the previous photo, you're correct. This is a steeper block with a lot of slash to work around. This is definitely what is referred to as "technical" ground which will have a much higher tree price than the ground in the previous photo. But don't think that a higher price always equates to higher earnings. Sometimes, a planter can put in so many more trees on the lower-priced ground that they've earned more money at the end of the day.

Someone who is looking for greener pastures. Tree planting is a hard job. If you're not absolutely certain that you can handle the physical and mental challenges, maybe you should change your mind before investing your money into planting gear and travelling to the first work site.
